Natural Stones and Clay Tiles

Natural stones include Limestone, Travertine, Marble, Slate and Flagstone.  Clay tiles include Mexican and Saltillo.  These surfaces are very beautiful and durable.  There are a few important things to be aware of to keep them looking new and beautiful for years to come. Follow these basic maintenance steps:

  1. Natural stones and clay tiles are very porous and must be properly sealed. Professional sealing by Acu-Chem, Inc. will ensure beauty and protection.
  2. Place walk off mats with non-slip backing in entry and exit areas of the floor.
  3. Dust mop or vacuum daily - especially traffic areas.  Particles of dust and sand act as sandpaper, wearing the surface and dulling the shine.  Be sure the vacuum does not have a beater bar to avoid scratching.
  4. Spot clean food spills, etc. as quickly as possible.
  5. Wet mop the floor as needed.  When wet mopping, it is necessary to use a string mop (no sponge mops) and a neutral pH cleaner such as Acu-Chem's Natural Stone Cleaner.  Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use cleaning products that contain lemon juice, vinegar or other acids; grout cleaners; bathroom tile & tub cleaners; or any product with abrasives.

NOTE: It is extremely important when wet mopping that your cleaning solution stays very clean.  Change the water frequently (approximately every 250 square feet).

  6. Use care when moving furniture.  Dragging heavy objects can scratch your floor.  Use of furniture leg protectors is recommended.
  7. Over time, traffic patterns, etch marks, scratches and dull spots will begin to develop.  Protect your investment!  Let Acu-Chem, Inc. maintain these surfaces to keep them looking new and beautiful and avoid costly restoration.
